Tribal wins MCA Awards

Jim Pateman, Business Development Director for Tribal in Education, won the coveted title of ‘Strategy Consultant of the Year’ at the Management Consultancies Association (MCA) Awards.

Jim was recognised for his work with the Department for Innovation, Universities & Skills (DIUS) to tackle the nation's underachievement in basic English and maths and to improve the basic skills of over seven million adults.

According to the MCA’s judges, the key to Jim's success was his unique ability to work with the DIUS and national organisations to marshal the support of mathematics and numeracy teachers. He did this by drawing together a diverse mix of people from across the UK who were crucial in recognising and improving the numeracy problem.

Jim managed this successfully through Tribal’s work with the National Centre for Excellence in the Teaching of Mathematics (NCETM), which has established itself as the source of professional development opportunities for maths teachers.

This work has contributed to the Government’s national programme to improve levels of adult numeracy, which was launched this year and is currently being rolled out. It has already led to a threefold increase in numeracy learners in some programmes.

Jim, after winning the award, said:

"I am delighted to have been chosen for this award - this is a great honour for Tribal. I would not have won without being able to draw on the breadth of expertise that sits across Tribal, particularly within the NCETM. This was the key to our joint success."

Peter Martin, our Chief Executive, said:

"I’d like to congratulate Jim for his skill and hard work which has achieved this outstanding recognition from the MCA.

"Jim’s award will clearly contribute to the increasing profile of Tribal as a partner of choice for the public sector. Well done also to our runners up and all the people who entered – keep up the good work!"
