China Earthquake Appeal

On 12 May, at 14:28, an earthquake hit the Sichuan province in China – taking the lives of more than 34,000 people.

  • The Chinese authorities fear that the final death toll will exceed 50,000. This is equivalent to half the population of Cambridge.
  • Almost 5 million people have been left homeless. Equivalent to roughly 8% of the population in the UK.
  • In several areas a whole generation of children has been lost, as many schools collapsed.

We have also set up an online site for donations: http://www.justgiving.com/Sichuan_earthquake_victims

All donations will go towards: The British Red Cross for the China Earthquake Appeal
