This new development is for use primarily with adults who are preparing for work or who are already in work but aren’t yet confident readers. This includes adults with learning difficulties, ESOL learners and basic literacy learners at Entry Level.

What is Safe at Work?

Safe at Work is a unique blended-learning resource pack, specially designed to introduce key health and safety topics. The materials have been developed by Tribal in conjunction with Portland College within TATE (Through Assistive Technology to Employment), a European Social Fund (ESF) Equal project led by HFT.

Who is it for?

Safe at Work is aimed at trainers, support workers and tutors working with adults who are preparing for work, particularly potential employees who are developing their reading and writing skills at Entry level. Many of the innovative resources are audiovisual and aim to complement existing health and safety materials, which can often be heavily text-based. The Safe at Work materials are mapped to both the Adult ESOL Core Curriculum and to units in the updated City & Guilds/NPTC Certificate in Life Skills qualification.

How does it work?

Safe at Work is supplied in a convenient backpack for trainers, support workers and tutors, packed with engaging and customisable resources. Unzip the bag and you will find a CD-ROM and a resource guide with ideas and activities based around key health and safety topics:

  • What is health and safety?
  • Fire safety
  • First aid
  • Dangerous substances
  • Slips, trips and falls
  • Right gear for the job
  • Manual handling
  • Personal safety
  • Travel safety.
